40 Factories, 16 Regions: Danone’s Master Plan for Digital Transformation
Danone needs no introduction.
Because there’s always someone with an Oikos waiting for them at home.
For its texture, for its creaminess...
Well, let’s change the subject, please.🤦♂️
Today, it’s not about the product.
It’s about why a company employing 100,000 people and operating in 120 markets uses Asana to stay organized and drive global success.
Every push toward organization starts with a problem—or several.
For Danone those problems were:
Scattered emails across all departments.
Non-standardized spreadsheets.
Too many unnecessary apps.
The result?
Zero visibility.
So, how did the company turn things around?
They decided to centralize everything on the Asana platform.
Here are the key takeaways, backed by numbers and data we gathered:
40 European Factories: The digital team set a goal to digitize 40 factories across Europe. Each plant had a 2–3 year plan to reach the final vision.
300 Digitalization Ideas: In a single factory in the Netherlands, the team gathered over 300 digital transformation ideas and grouped them into 33 concrete solutions with a roadmap extending to 2025.
16 Regions: The Integrated Business Services (IBS) team used Asana to manage the rollout of their services across 16 different regions.
Teams made the most of Asana's standardization features. They started by creating project templates—so whenever a new factory implemented a solution, they just duplicated the model. They used Asana Rules to automate changes in custom field statuses.
At the visibility level, Asana data (status, costs, etc.) was integrated with Power BI to build global dashboards. Senior leadership (COO and VPs) gained instant access to performance insights from the digitalization efforts.
In terms of cost savings, these implementations made it possible to report progress globally—quantifying and demonstrating the return on these initiatives.
In short, Danone acted like a true KPI expert—creating replicable processes, measuring concrete data, and scaling efficiency worldwide.
“Asana made everything shareable,” said one of the company’s managers. They went from a mess of emails to a system where anyone can see who’s doing what and when—eliminating unnecessary status meetings.
